A few days ago someone passed some information to me about a church that claimed sightings of black angels, orbs, pianos that played of their own volition, and even cell phone calls from God! They claimed these were signs of God’s favor, blessing and revival. However, to any true child of God these things are foolishness and nothing more than New Age mysticism. While some of these stories may be made up, there may be some that are actually experiencing these phenomenon through deceptive demon spirits. How can I be so bold in saying that these experiences are not from God? Because there is no biblical precedent for them and the word of God must be our plumbline!
Interestingly enough there is another black angel located in Iowa City, Iowa at 1000 Brown St, in Oakland Cemetery. She is a stone statue known for causing death or illness to anyone who touches her. It is rumored that if a pregnant woman was to walk beneath her outstretched wing they would miscarry. Now of course this is ridiculous to those in Christ however I say this to illustrate that even those who are perishing know that a dark angel is not a good “sign”!
In the New Testament there are few examples of angels interacting in the affairs of men although they are mentioned by Paul in warning us against a wrong emphasis on them.
In Galatians 1:8 Paul warned against angels bringing deception.
But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Interestingly enough Paul also warns us in Colossians 2:18 to beware of those who worship angels and engage in mysticism!
Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
The vast majority of angelic encounters that many are so quick to boast of are demonic and deceptive spirits who preach another gospel. Make no mistake about it saints- we are to focus our attention on the Son of God alone and not on created angelic beings.
Before I was saved, I used to dabble in the occult. Demonic spirits are real and are working feverently to decieve people!
People who are not saved see these wonderous things happening so they immediately know that such experiences are 'real'. The problem is, they do not realize that they are from the forces of darkness.
A true Christian has faith without the need of signs and wonders. In fact, if someone feels like they need signs and wonders to believe, then that person practically has no faith at all.
