JOHN 1:3 – “ALL THINGS WERE MADE BY HIM; AND WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANY THING MADE THAT WAS MADE.”
The phrase, “All things were made by Him,” tells us that all things came into being through Him, and without Him not one single thing came into being.
This denies the theory of the eternity of matter which was held by some in ancient times, and continues to be claimed by some.
An absolute distinction therefore exists between Jesus and Creation.
As well, the pronoun “Him,” and referring to Jesus, makes it distinct that the “Word” is a Person (Williams).
The two words “all things” refer to every item of Creation one by one, rather than all things regarded in totality. This tells us, at least according to the limit of our comprehension, that Jesus painstakingly saw to the individual Creation of each being, plant, planet, star, etc., and as Paul said, “For by Him were all things created, that are in Heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be Thrones, or Dominions, or Principalities, or Powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him” (Col. 1:16).
In verse 1 we are also told how He did this. The “Logos” or “Word” is the organ or instrument by which everything, one by one, was made (Reynolds).
The phrase, “And without Him was not any thing made that was made,” says the same thing as the first phrase, but in an opposite manner, in order to stress the emphasis of Jesus as Creator.
The words, “Without Him,” mean that independently of His cooperation and volition, nothing, not even one single thing, was made.
When one considers the order of Creation, how it functions according to set laws, and never varies from these laws, continuing to fulfill the creative order, one cannot help but be totally awed.
Other than the absolute absurdity and stupidity which characterize the vapid philosophy of evolution, the sheer affront to God as Creator, by the propagation of this lie, and a lie it is, is the greatest insult of all. Actually, evolution is an insult to intelligence in any capacity. The idea that something on its own can be brought out of nothing, is the beginning of this lie. As well, the thought, which is the very heart of evolution, that something can gradually come from disorganized matter, into a well-ordered structure, is the very opposite of that which really happens. If left unattended and uncultivated, there is always a regression instead of a progression. That is the reason the Lord told Adam and Eve, “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth” (Gen. 1:28).
Even though we have given the following elsewhere in these Volumes, in view of the significance of this subject, we will give it again in abbreviated form:
EVOLUTION: FACT OR FICTION?
Evolution is now taught as a science, when in reality it meets none of the criteria for true science, so the teachers who peddle this fabrication to gullible students, whether in grade school or college, are in effect, violating all the rules of true science.
All science is basically formulated from the foundation of mathematics. In other words, 2 + 2 = 4, which means that 2 + 3 doesn’t equal four, and neither does 1 + 6, etc.
We will show in the following statements, that the theory of evolution doesn’t even remotely approach true science.
1. THE BIBLE
The Bible declares in no uncertain terms, that God is the first cause of everything and the last cause.
In the original creation as formulated by God, and given to us in the first two Chapters of Genesis, creation contains no hint of foreboding for the future, for everything has the seal of perfection stamped on it. Until the Fall and declination of man and woman from pristine Grace, the prospect for the future was one of continuous and untrammeled fellowship with God. When sin entered human experience it cast a blemish upon all created life (Hos. 4:7; Rom. 8:21-22), and threatened the future of man by separating his personality from God.
Therefore, it became necessary for the Creator to make specific provision for human spiritual needs, first by the promise of One Who would effectively break the power of the Tempter (Gen. 3:15), then by the provision of a Sacrificial system which would enable the penitent worshiper to renew his fellowship with God, and finally by revealing that at some specific point in history, the Creator’s purpose would be entirely realized, and a new Heaven and Earth would replace the existing order of things. All of this is, and shall be realized in Jesus Christ.
2. Creation cannot produce something greater than itself.
That being the case, this blows to pieces all the claims of evolution.
In fact, all things created actually degenerate if left on their own. While species can be improved upon by a careful cultivation, no new species can be produced by such a law.
3. AFTER ITS KIND
Emphatically, in Genesis, Chapter 1, the Bible declares over and over, that everything created by God reproduces “after its kind,” which means the following:
The squirrel has always been a squirrel, as the horse has always been a horse, etc. There is no record in history, nor is there any proof at present, that there has been a reproduction of anything except “their own kind.”
The evolutionist would have us believe that the entire chain of this false philosophy is intact with the exception of the so-called “missing link.” However, the truth is, the entire chain is missing.
The phrase “after its kind” is remarkable, when we consider that there are over 2,000,000 species of plant and animal life. None of these have ever broken out of the mold, and reproduced something that is different.
4. REPRODUCTION
The power of reproduction is not in that which is produced, but in that which does the producing. The question has ever been asked, as to which came first, the hen or the egg? The answer is very simple:
The chicken alone could produce the egg, so the chicken came first.
5. DEAD MATTER
Science has itself proved, that life cannot be brought out of dead matter. In fact, they have tried to do this many times, but of course, with no success.
Whenever the Lord originally created life, and which He is the Source of all life, He created it in the sense of lower forms of life depending on higher forms of life. In other words, the simple depends on the complex, the powerless upon the powerful, etc.
But let us not forget, that even though this is so as it regards the lower forms depending on the higher forms, we must never forget, that all life ultimately depends upon God as Creator.
6. A COMMON ANCESTOR
In the study of evolution, and despite all the claims of “natural selection” and the “survival of the fittest,” both have proved to be false.
The very foundation of evolution is that of a slow and tedious process, played out over millions and millions of years, and perhaps even longer.
The truth is, all of creation passes through various stages of growth very rapidly, completely debunking the theories of evolution.
It is amazing, that the teachers of evolution, despite their theories of “natural selection” and the “survival of the fittest,” have never found one single example of evolution from one species to another.
So the next best thing for the evolutionist, is “similarity”; however, similarity only proves similarity, and nothing else.
I’m wearing a watch; it is a mechanical device, the same as a 747 airplane is a mechanical device. In that it is mechanical it has similarities to the 747 in a minor way, but to be sure, it will never evolve into a 747. So the teaching that all life comes from a common ancestor is basely false.
7. DEGENERATION
Degeneration, as should be obvious, is the very opposite of evolution. The theory of this false science teaches that things evolve into higher and higher forms of life. Nature teaches the very opposite. In fact, it teaches degeneration.
It’s a common thing for us to say that nature is full of life; however, in reality it is full of death.
Using the physical body of man as an example, the some six thousand years of recorded history, proclaim no evolving process. In other words, despite all the modern medicine and technology, the human life span is little more today than what it was a thousand, or several thousand years ago. In fact, the Bible tells us, that for the first thousand years, men lived for several centuries, with Methuselah living some 969 years (Gen. 5:27). Let the Reader understand, that these are not idle tales, but in reality that these men actually lived that long.
In fact, God originally created man to live forever. Due to the Fall, spiritual death was brought on, which ultimately occasioned physical death, i.e., degeneration.
The only way this degeneration can be suspended is through the Lord Jesus Christ. Actually, were it not for His intervention, which He did at the Cross, the life span of humanity, despite modern technology, would gradually decrease. Ultimately, Christ will put an end to the entirety of the process of sin, and its companion, death (II Cor., Chpt. 15; Rev., Chpts. 19-22).
8. GEOLOGY
Some have tried to prove evolution by geology, but their efforts have proved fruitless.
It is now believed by many, that such mighty canyons as the Grand Canyon and others similar, were in fact carved out in a matter of hours or days at the most. The evolutionist claim millions of years, but there is no proof of that.
In opening some of the flood gates on the Hoover dam, the force of the water rushing through, in a matter of hours, carved out several feet of solid rock. And to be sure, the force and pressure of that particular water outlet is nothing by comparison to what happened during the flood — when these things probably occurred.
There is no proof whatsoever of evolution in geology.
9. JUDGMENT AND RE-CREATION
Evolution teaches that everything is growing better and better, always evolving into a higher process, and despite the fact that there is absolutely no physical proof of such, and in fact never has been.
There is evidence now that the whole world is moving toward a climax of judgment and re-creation.
In chemistry, which is possibly the closest study of the forces of inanimate matter and life, there is no evidence of a surge upward, but rather the very opposite.
True science tells us that “the tendency of atoms of higher atomic weight to break up into other atoms of lower weight seem to be the universal tendency of all matter.” This is also true in the vegetable and animal kingdoms. This, as stated, blows to pieces the evolutionary theory.
10. CONTRADICTIONS
Tyndale said that the world had its beginning in a “fire-mist” which contracted as it became cold.
Spence said it was a “cold-cloud” that became heated and contracted.
Evolution teaches that all forms of life, whatever they may presently be, have gradually evolved from lower forms of life, which have been a process of millions of years. But again we state, there is no record whatsoever of any “in-between” species. And common sense tells one that if evolution was a reliable science, that there would be all types of vegetation, animals, and men, in various stages of progression. But that doesn’t exist in one single example. As well, evolution as we’ve stated, has absolutely no idea as to the first cause. And let me state the following:
The idea that God is the first cause, with the evolutionary process taking up thereafter, is totally unbiblical. The theory of evolution in all of its forms, has no relationship to facts, and has no relationship to the Word of God. In other words, one simply cannot believe in evolution and the Biblical account of creation at the same time.
THE FOOLISHNESS OF EVOLUTION
If it is to be noticed, there is a bitter hatred by evolutionist of God and the Bible. Consequently, they manufacture multiplied drawings of supposed human beings rising from a molecule through a monkey to the present man, and pass it off as fact when in reality, it is fiction. They foster all of this off on young children in school, and teach it as the truth, when in reality there is no truth in evolution whatsoever.
As well, if the evolutionists have their way, they not only demand that evolution alone be taught in the public school system, but as well, that the Biblical account of creation not be taught at all. If they are so sure of their “theory,” why do they fear the Word of God?
MAN AND BIBLICAL CREATION
There is a personal relationship which exists between God and His Creation; consequently, there can be no room in Scripture for the idea of the “nature” as an autonomous power set in motion by a First Cause. In the Word of God, and in Creation itself, which is obvious, God is depicted as being at all times in control of the world (Job 38:33; Jer. 5:24). As such, it needs His continual undergirding, and to be sure, it has His continual undergirding.
While the world was intended to display the Glory of God, it was also fashioned as the dwelling place for man (Isa. 45:18), incidentally, the crown of Divine Creation.
While everything was created originally by God, we find that man is the direct product of created activity, and is dignified in a special manner by being the recipient of the “living breath” of God. Stress is laid upon the nature of man as the highest form of created life, by man being described as made in the Divine Image (Gen. 1:26-27). This can only mean that man in his complete bodily existence was patterned after the Image of God.
Genesis 2:7 speaks of man becoming a “living soul.” It would probably have been better for the Hebrew words “nepes hayyah” to have been translated “personality,” since it is the totality of man which is in view. Hebrew thought consistently viewed man as a personality, and the numerous Old Testament references to the relationship between emotions and bodily changes, demonstrate a concern for the integration of the personality of the individual. Man is not just a “body” into which a “soul” has been placed. Instead he is a living personality which has physical extension in time and place. When living by Divine Law he is neither “body” nor “soul,” but a unified being in which all aspects of existence are designed to function in an integrated manner to the Glory of God. Even though man was created “spirit, soul, and body,” the Hebrews always looked at man as one indigenous personality, and rightly so.
THE LIVING IMAGE OF GOD
Because man is, in effect, the living Image of God upon Earth, he is given the task of serving as the Divine representative and ordering the ways of those aspects of creation which are put under his control (Gen. 1:28). Though he has been made in the Image of God, man is still vastly inferior to the Deity and Stature of God (Ps. 8:6-8). Nevertheless he is crowned with glory and honor because he has been made especially to enjoy fellowship with the Creator.
Unlike the animal creation which has to obey instinctive impulses and laws, man has been given a freedom of will as part of his spiritual heritage. While his prime vocation is to serve God and the world of nature, he is unique in being the only creature which can respond to God in disobedience as well as in Faith and Trust. He can revile God as well as praise Him, and can separate himself from the Divine Presence just as easily as he can have fellowship with God.
Certainly the latter was the clear intention of the Creator, since no other species can articulate the Divine Praises.
Thus, man was made to communicate meaningfully and intelligently with God, an ideal which was subsequently attributed to the nation in Covenant relationship with Him, namely Israel (Isa. 43:21).
THE NEW CREATION IN CHRIST
The New Testament authors agreed with Judaism that God Alone was the Creator of the world through His Word. But in the light of the fuller revelation of God in Christ, they viewed the process of creation Christologically. In Jesus all things cohered (Col. 1:17), and the unity of creation in Him was demonstrated further as part of the Divine purpose in history (Eph. 1:9-10). He it is Who upholds the universe by His powerful Word (Heb. 1:3), and brings meaning to the historical process as the Saviour and Redeemer of the world.
In the light of this conviction it was possible for those who were associated with the Early Church to assert their human salvation as predestined in Christ before the founding of the world (Mat. 25:34; Eph. 1:4; I Pet. 1:20). Everything centers upon the Firstborn of all creation Who is Christ (Col. 1:15), which means that He is the Creator of all things, since it has been created through Him and unto Him, Who is the beginning and the end.
The New Testament authors were insistent that the new kingdom of grace, long promised by prophecy, had already appeared with the incarnate Christ. The new creation was actually a promise of future glory (Eph. 1:14; Rev. 21:1-4), when all redeemed creatures would laud their Creator (Rev. 4:8-11; 5:13). Christ was the New Man whom Adam foreshadowed (Rom. 5:12-14; I Cor. 15:21-22), the Image of the invisible God (Col. 1:15), Whose death would redeem the world from bondage to sin and make individual Salvation possible. In the work of Calvary, Christ has paid the penalty for human iniquity, and has opened the way for renewal of the individual personality through confession, surrender, and the acceptance of His Saving Grace by Faith (Rom. 10:9-10, 13; Eph. 2:8-9). When one has identified himself completely with the work of Calvary and has received cleansing and pardon, he is “in Christ.” The Saviour has restored the human pattern which God planned at the first, and those who are His are themselves new creations by Divine Grace (Bibliography: H.
