As for the question of God’s sovereignty and whether God is limited to His word. God is limited to his Word because He has limited Himself to His word! Mathew 4:3-10 outlines the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness by Satan. In every case Jesus answered Satan with “it is written”! God is limited by His own nature and His own word. Let me explain. There are definitely things that God can not do! God can not do something that is contradictory in nature nor can he deny himself. He can not swear by any higher (which is why is swears by Himself). He can not lie nor can He change what is written in His word. He can not let sin go unpunished. I for one am so glad that God has chosen to limit Himself to His Word. This means that He can not fail to keep His promises and He cannot break His covenant! He can not ignore the cries of his people nor ignore the blood of his martyrs. Praise God that his Word is a sure thing!
This brings us to our last question as to whether we can bind God to something that He has said in His Word. God has bound Himself to His word. We can not bind God as that would suggest power over Him. We have no power over God nor can we command Him. God has bound Himself to His Word and it is a sure and certain thing.
